Can you imagine four days away from it all where the Children of the Mist play? Starting deep within NZ, where the Tuhoe (Children of the Mist) people live in the lands of Te Urewera National Park, we are welcomed into their hearts. For our first night we will stay on a Marae in the midst of Te Urewera, experiencing the warmth of Tuhoe culture and hospitality.
When you wake the following morning with the mist rolling over the heavily-forested mountains enveloping the valleys of the Tuhoe, you will push your waka (canoe/kayak) out onto the slow moving Whakatane River. Then starts your journey into paradise with all the equipment you need provided for you.
Allow the native forest to envelop you as you meander around the twists and turns in the river taking in the ever-changing landscape. Stop on the sides of the river for lunch and experience a wilderness so untouched that your feet may be the only ones ever to have stood there.
Arrive at camp sights where the river is within view and the native bush explodes out onto the river verge.
As we venture deeper within the heart of Te Urewera, the mountains seam to leap skyward touching the clouds. This rough beauty is gentle enough to impress yet immense enough to be respected.
Welcome to our world; it would be our privilege to share it with you!
